Once called Gingoteague, Chincoteague Island known as "beautiful land across the water" has been a popular destination for travelers dating as far back as 1524. This meager waterman's village has a rich history spanning generations. A tiny island steeped in traditions has grown over the years to be one of America's Favorite Small Town Destinations. We are known for our beautiful marshlands, great fishing, great dining, local shops, oysters, ponies, and the beach beyond the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
